PIONEERS DEFEAT LADY EAGLES 7-2 IN SAC TENNIS CLASH

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The No. 40 Tusculum College women’s tennis team swept all three doubles matches, including a key 9-7 pro set win by the TC duo of Danae Valderrama and Samantha Cantu as the Pioneers defeated Carson-Newman College 7-2 Wednesday afternoon at the Nichols Tennis Complex.

The Pioneers improve 8-2 overall and 2-0 in the South Atlantic Conference, while the Lady Eagles (6-5, 3-1 SAC) suffer their first league set-back of the season.

Caroline Crowe and Bronwyn Hartley recorded an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles over the C-N duo of Emily Sorah and Amanda Bartlett.  Amanda Pike and Jennifer Sparks posted the first points of the match with their 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles.

Tessa Caprio and Bartlett recorded wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively to cut the deficit to 3-2.  But Cantu, Hartley, Pike and Crowe each posted straight set victories to seal the victory.

Tusculum will be at Catawba College this Saturday for a 2 p.m. SAC match.  Carson-Newman will host Milligan College this Sunday.
