CATAWBA WOMEN UPSET NO. 40 TUSCULUM 5-4

 

SALISBURY, N.C. -- The Catawba College women's tennis team upset 40th-ranked Tusculum 5-4 Saturday afternoon at the Johnson Tennis Center.     

 

Catawba won two of the three doubles matches and captured three singles points to claim the win.    Catawba improves to 11-8 overall and 1-2 in the South Atlantic Conference, while the Pioneers fall to 8-3 and 2-1 SAC.

 

                The Catawba Indians posted victories in the top two doubles flights, including an 8-4 pro set win by Lauren Fluegge and KT Rebadow at No. 1 doubles.  TC cut the deficit to 2-1 as Jennifer Sparks and Amanda Pike defeated Meri Cartmill and Nikiah Knox 8-4 at No. 3 doubles.

 

                Tusculum tied the match at 2-2 as Danae Valderama defeated Fluegge in straight sets (6-4, 6-2) at No. 1 singles.  Catawba's Julie McKinzie and Andi Binney won at the second and third flights, respectively to take a 4-2 advantage.  Rebadow clinched the match at No. 4 singles with her 7-6, 6-1 win over Bronwyn Hartley.

 

                Tusculum won the final two singles points with straight set victories by Pike and Caroline Crowe.
