NO. 38 TUSCULUM DEFEATS WINGATE 9-0

 

                GREENEVILLE, Tenn. – No. 38 Tusculum claimed a 9-0 South Atlantic Conference women’s tennis victory over Wingate on Sunday at Nichols Tennis Complex.  With its fifth straight win, Tusculum improves to 9-5 overall and 2-0 in the SAC.  Wingate drops to 4-9 and 1-2 in the conference.

 

Tusculum won two of the doubles matches by a score of 8-2.  Claudia Bolivar (Armenia, Columbia) and Maria Nevarez (Guayaquil, Ecuador) defeated Alexis McDaniel (Acworth, Ga.) and Sydney Pallesen (Calgary, Alberta) by that tally at the No. 1 position, while Danae Valderrama (Orlando, Fla.) and Jennifer Sparks (Missouri City, Texas) downed Courtney Luce (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Shawn Kindley (Lincolnton, N.C.) 8-2 at the No. 3 slot.

 

The No. 2 doubles match was a tightly-contested affair, with TC’s Bronwyn Hartley (Beamsville, Ontario) and Amanda Pike (Elizabethton, Tenn.) downing Cameron Curlee (Savannah, Ga.) and Erika Gluckstal (Ft. Myers, Fla.) 8-6.

 

In singles action, Nevarez claimed a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Gluckstal at the No. 3 position.  Bolivar downed McDaniel 6-1, 6-4 at the No. 1 slot, while Valderrama defeated Luce by the same score at No. 2.

 

Hartley earned a 6-4, 6-3 win against Pallesen at the No. 4 position, and Pike took a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 5 singles.  Sparks posted a 6-1, 6-2 win over Kindley in the sixth slot to round out the TC sweep.

 

Tusculum will next be in action on Wednesday when it hosts Mars Hill for a 2:30 p.m. match.  Wingate will host Newberry on Wednesday at 2:30.
