TUSCULUM WOMEN’S TENNIS EDGES LMU 5-4

 

                GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Heidi von der Lage recorded the fifth and deciding point as the Tusculum College women’s tennis team defeated visiting Lincoln Memorial University 5-4 Tuesday afternoon at the Nichols Tennis Complex.

 

                Tusculum improves to 13-5 overall, while LMU falls to 11-9 on the year.

 

                Tusculum captured two of the three doubles points posting identical 8-2 scores at the No. 2 and No. 3 flights.  The LMU pairing of Kathleen Rollet and Helena Sokolova posted an 8-0 win over Bronwyn Hartley and Caroline Crowe at No. 1 doubles.

 

                LMU went ahead 3-2 after winning the top two singles flights including Sokolova’s 6-0, 6-2 win over Danae Valderrama.  Tusculum freshman Samantha Cantu tied the match at 3-3 with her 6-1, 6-0 victory against Jennifer Pardo at No. 3 singles.

 

                TC captured the next two points as Hartley won 6-1, 6-2 over Martina Rezic at No. 4 singles, while von der Lage posted a 6-0, 6-3 win at the No. 6 flight against Mandy Mills.  LMU’s Rachel Redmond wrapped up the scoring with her 6-4, 2-6, (10-4) win at No. 5 singles against Amanda Pike.

 

                Tusculum will host Virginia Intermont College for Senior Day on Friday as the Pioneers will honor Valderrama.  LMU will be at Brevard College on Saturday.
