TUSCULUM'S SAMANTHA CANTU NAMED SAC WOMEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

 

Samantha Cantu                ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Samantha Cantu of Tusculum College has been named the South Atlantic Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week announced league officials Tuesday.

 

                Cantu, a freshman from Sugarland, Texas, went 2-0 last week in singles play as the Pioneers finished the regular season with a pair of victories.

 

                She opened the week with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Lincoln Memorial's Jennifer Pardo at No. 3 singles to secure a critical point in TC's 5-4 win over the Lady Railsplitters.  She also won in straight sets over Virginia Intermont's Triona Reilly in the Pioneers' 9-0 win against the Cobras.

 

                Tusculum (14-5), seeded third at this year's Food Lion SAC Tournament, will host No. 6 seed Catawba College for a quarterfinal match on Tuesday beginning at 2 p.m.

 

                The SAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week is selected by a vote of the league's eight sports information directors.
