NEWBERRY
ELIMINATES TUSCULUM WOMEN 5-2 AT SAC TOURNAMENT
GREENEVILLE,
Newberry jumped out to an early
1-0 lead as Isabel Kreidler
and Bethany Poppe
won 8-1 over TC's Bronwyn Hartley and Caroline
Crowe at No. 2 doubles.
Kriedler
sparked the Newberry rally at No. 3 singles as she dropped the first set to
Cantu 6-3, but rallied to win the final two frames 6-3, 6-3 to tie the match at
2-2.
The Lady Indians regained the
lead at No. 1 singles when Mortimer battled Valderrama
to a 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 marathon. But the
match of the day came at the second flight between Newberry's Lauren Hartley and
Miller sealed the win at No. 4
singles as she won 6-3, 6-3 over TC's Bronwyn Hartley for the fifth and
deciding point.
It was a unique family affair on
Saturday as Bronwyn (TC) and Lauren (NC) Hartley are sisters.
