BOLIVAR AND NEVAREZ NAMED ALL-TOURNAMENT

 

                ROCK HILL, S.C.Tusculum’s Claudia Bolivar and Maria Nevarez have been named to the All-Tournament team for the 2006 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Women’s Tennis Tournament, league officials announced Monday.

 

                Tusculum advanced to the finals of the tournament before falling to Presbyterian 5-1.  The Pioneers downed Catawba 5-1 in semifinal action and defeated Wingate 5-0 in the tournament’s opening round.

 

Both seniors, Bolivar and Nevarez did most of their damage on the court as a doubles tandem, posting a perfect 3-0 doubles mark in the tournament.  Against Wingate, they defeated Alexis McDaniel and Sydney Pallesen 8-2.  In the semifinals, they downed the Catawba duo of KT Rebadow and Lauren Fluegge 8-5.  In the championship match, they scored TC’s lone point with a 9-7 victory over Presbyterian’s Catherine Bankhead and Abby Diminich.

 

For the season, Bolivar and Nevarez have posted an impressive 22-2 doubles record.  They have gone 10-0 against SAC competition, including this weekend’s three tournament victories.

 

In addition to her doubles work, Nevarez also recorded a pair of singles victoris for the Pioneers.  Playing at the No. 3 position, she defeated Wingate's Cameron Curlee 6-0, 6-0. Nevarez also downed Catawba's Andi Binney 6-2, 6-1 in semifinal action.
