TUSCULUM WOMEN’S TENNIS ENDS YEAR RANKED 27TH

SKILLMAN, N.J. --- The Tusculum College women’s tennis team has ended the season ranked No. 27 in the nation according to the final 2007-08 Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s Top 40 announced officials.  The No. 27 ranking is the second best end of the year ranking for the Pioneers.  The 2003-04 squad posted a 20-1 mark and earned a No. 22 ranking.

The Pioneers tallied a 20-4 worksheet this year, winning nine of their last 10 matches, including three in a row to capture the Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament title, the program’s second in school history.  Tusculum’s 20 wins matched the school record set by the 2003-04 team.

Columbus State is 11th, followed by Clayton State, Florida Southern, Hawaii Pacific, Nova Southeastern, Northwood, Incarnate Word, Drury, Georgia College & State, Delta State, Tarleton State, Hawaii Hilo, Northeastern State, UC San Diego, Augusta State, Grand Valley State, Tusculum, Erskine, Slippery Rock, East Central, Northwest Missouri State, Saint Leo, Cameron, Southwest Baptist, Cal Poly Pomona, USC Aiken, CSU Los Angeles, Limestone, North Alabama and Central Oklahoma.

The 20-4 record also marked the eighth straight winning season for the Pioneers and the sixth NCAA II Tournament appearance in the last eight years.  The national ranking is also Tusculum’s fifth in the last seven seasons.
