TUSCULUM WOMEN'S TENNIS BLANKS CONCORD 9-0

 

                ATHENS, W.Va. --- Senior Danae Valderrama accounted two points as the Tusculum College women's tennis team defeated host Concord University 9-0 Sunday afternoon in the season-opener for both teams.

 

                Valderrama, along with No. 1 doubles partner Jennifer Sparks, posted an 8-6 pro set win over the Concord duo of Nikki Keith and Dellci Burgess.  Valderrama followed that with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Keith at No. 1 singles.

 

                Sparks, Bronwyn Hartley, Samantha Cantu, Amanda Pike and Caroline Crowe each posted singles wins, while the No. 3 doubles pairing of Heidi Vonderlage and Jessi Smith won its match, 8-2 over Brittany Cook and Chassidy Smith.

 

                Tusculum (1-0) returns to action Sep. 22 as the Pioneers play in the USC Upstate Tournament in Spartanburg, S.C.
