TUSCULUM WOMEN'S TENNIS WINS 7-2 IN SEASON OPENER

 

                GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum College women's tennis team opened the 2007-08 season with a 7-2 win over visiting West Virginia State College Friday afternoon at the Nichols Tennis Complex.  The Pioneers (1-0) captured two of the three doubles points, while posting a five wins in singles action.  West Virginia State falls to 8-2 on the season.

 

                Tusculum's Samantha Cantu and Katelyn Doss posted an 8-3 pro set win over Teddi Russell and Erica Blakley 8-4.  TC also got a doubles win by the pairing of Bronwyn Hartley and Blake Thompson as they won 8-6 at No. 3 doubles over Emily Bowlin and Eben Russell.

 

                Tusculum got singles victories by Sparks, Hartley, Pike, Doss and Thompson.  WVSC's Anna Baronayte won in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 1 flight.

 

                Tusculum travels to Johnson C. Smith University next Saturday fro a 1 p.m. contest.
