NO. 8 ASHLAND RALLIES TO BEAT TUSCULUM VOLLEYBALL 3-1
FLORENCE, Ala.
--- The eighth-ranked Ashland University volleyball team rallied from a game down
to defeat Tusculum College 3-1 in day one action of the University of North Alabama Classic. The two-day event is being held at UNA’s Flowers Hall.
Tusculum (0-2) drops its second match of the
day against a team ranked in the top 10 in NCAA Division II. Earlier in the day, the Pioneers battled host
North Alabama in a 3-0 setback.
Ashland was led by Mary Kate Glowe who posted a double-double with 18 kills and 14
digs. Setter Lynsey Warren accounted for 46 assists and three service aces,
while Sophie Paddock and Amanda Stefanski tallied 13 kills each.
Tusculum was led by Brittney Oblinger, who finished with a double-double with her 34
assists and 10 digs. Katie Luebke accounted for 11 kills,
while Holli Cadenhead added 10 kills
and nine digs. Tusculum was led on defense by Alexis Rowles with her 19 digs, while
Vivian Lacy added 10 digs herself.
Tusculum posted a .367 hitting percentage in
the opening game as the Pioneers prevailed 30-22. Ashland
answered by winning game two by an identical 30-22 score and posted a 30-12
decision in the third frame. Ashland posted its second
win of opening day as they captured game four, 30-21.
Tusculum
wraps up its stay in Florence with two matches
on Saturday, facing Northern Kentucky University
and the University
of North Dakota.
