RALLY TO THRILLING 3-2 WIN OVER NORTH DAKOTA
"Tusculum Volleyball Goes 1-1 on Final Day of
UNA Classic"
GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum College volleyball
team rallied from a 2-0 deficit to post a thrilling five-game win over the
University of North Dakota Saturday afternoon in final day action of the
University of North Alabama Classic. The four-team, two-day event is
being held this weekend at UNA’s Flowers Hall.
The
Pioneers (1-3) won by scores of 26-30, 30-32, 30-22, 31-29, 17-15.
Vivian Lacy (Palm Bay,
Fla.) led the Tusculum charge with 23 kills and 15 digs.
Holli Cadenhead (Van
Vleck, Texas) added 15 kills and
12 digs, while freshman Katie Luebke
(Bellefontaine, Ohio) finished with 10 kills and five
blocks. Brittney Oblinger (Belvidere, Ill.) added 48 assists, while Alexis Rowles (Simpsonville,
S.C.) tallied a team-best 19 digs
in the victory.
After
dropping the first two games, the Pioneers went on a 9-0 run in game three, all
on Sonya Hunt’s (Cleveland, Tenn.)
serve to move ahead 14-5 en route to a 30-22 win. In the fourth frame, Tusculum fought off match point with three straight points
as the Pioneers prevailed 31-29, including blocks by Luebke and Heather MacArthur (Salt Lake City, Utah)
on the game clinching points. In the fifth and deciding game, TC rallied from
a 3-0 deficit and scored the final three points, including kills by Luebke and
MacArthur in the win over UND (0-4).
Earlier
in the day, Tusculum dropped a 3-0 decision to
national powerhouse Northern
Kentucky University.
Tusculum will travel to NCAA Division I East
Tennessee State University Tuesday night for a non-conference clash.
