LANDER OUTLASTS TUSCULUM IN FIVE-GAME MARATHON

 

                GREENWOOD, S.C. --- Kerri Sorensen and Andrea Griffin had 17 kills each, while Mallory Wasik added 16 Wednesday night to lead the Lander volleyball team to its fourth consecutive victory, a 3-2 non-conference triumph over Tusculum College at Horne Arena. Lander won the match by scores of 29-31, 30-17, 30-22, 25-30, 15-10.

 

Lander improves to 9-1 overall, while Tusculum drops to 4-6, ending the Pioneers' three-match winning streak.

 

Candace LaRocca tallied 45 assists for the Bearcats, while Melissa Trippany led Lander in digs with 18 and also had three service aces. Sara Senn added 15 digs and six block assists; Kay Stewart had seven kills, four service aces, four solo blocks and four block assists; Ashley Ferry 14 digs and Marina Camps 11 digs and three service aces.

 

Tusculum was led by Vivian Lacy (30 kills), Katie Luebke (15 kills), Mariana Rezende (62 assists), Alexis Rowles (22 digs), Heather MacArthur (3 blocks) and Kelly Bristow (3 blocks).

 

                After playing its first 10 matches on the road, Tusculum returns home this weekend to host the Pioneer Classic beginning on Friday at 4 p.m.  TC will host Virginia Intermont College to open the tournament.
