SWEEPS TUSCULUM
IN SAC VOLLEYBALL
GREENEVILLE, Tenn. ---Melissa Griffith recorded a
double-double with 21 kills and 24 digs to lead Catawba
College to a 3-0 win over host Tusculum College Friday night in South Atlantic
Conference volleyball action. The
Catawba Indians (16-11, 10-3 SAC) won the match by scores of 30-19, 30-26,
30-23. Tusculum has its four-matching winning streak
halted as the Pioneers go to 20-9 overall and 8-5 in the league.
Catawba's Melissa Powers added 10 kills, while Andi Henderson dished out 47 assists in the victory.
Tusculum's Vanessa Fortes'
tallied 10 kills, while Alexis Rowles added 23 digs
in the loss. Stacey Ray added 29 assists, while Sonya Hunt recorded two service aces.
Friday's match was designated as
"Dig For the Cure" Night as both raised
funds and awareness for breast cancer research through the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Both Tusculum
and Catawba tallied over $1,700 for this worthy cause. Final totals will be announced early next
week.
The Pioneers return to action on
Saturday when they host SAC front-runner Wingate University
for a 1 p.m. match. Catawba will travel
to Jefferson City, Tenn.
on Saturday to take on Carson-Newman
College.
