TUSCULUM SEEDED FOURTH FOR FOOD LION SAC VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT

ROCK HILL, S.C. --- The seeding and pairings for the 2006 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Volleyball Tournament have been announced and Tusculum College will be the No. 4 seed announced league officials.

The Pioneers will open tournament play on Friday morning at 9:30 a.m. when they face fifth-seed Carson-Newman College in a quarterfinal match at Cuddy Arena on the campus of Wingate University in Wingate, N.C.

Tusculum swept the season series against the Lady Eagles.  The Pioneers rallied from a 2-0 deficit to win 3-2 at Carson-Newman in the league opener for both teams.  Tusculum won the rematch in Greeneville with a 3-1 victory earlier this month.

The Pioneers finished fourth in the conference race posting a 9-5 record, its best league mark since beginning South Atlantic Conference play in 1999.  Tusculum's 21-9 overall record is already a 12-win turnaround from last year as TC went 9-22 and finished tied for seventh in the conference.

The winner of the Tusculum/Carson-Newman match will advance to the semifinal on Friday afternoon and will face either top-seeded Wingate or No. 8 Mars Hill College.  The SAC Tournament final will be played on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. at Cuddy Arena.

Tusculum has two regular season matches remaining before heading to Wingate.  The Pioneers will host North Greenville University for a 5 p.m. match.  That contest will be the final home match for Tusculum seniors Jessica Horton, Vanessa Fortes and Shawna Voigt.  TC will also play a road match at in-state foe Lincoln Memorial University on Tuesday.
