TUSCULUM RALLIES TO 3-2 WIN AT LMU IN VOLLEYBALL THRILLER

 

                HARROGATE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum College volleyball team rallied from a 2-0 deficit to defeat host Lincoln Memorial University 3-2 Tuesday night at Mars Gym.  The Pioneers (23-9) won the match by scores of 27-30, 11-30, 30-15, 30-25, 15-12. 

 

Tusculum ends a 20-match losing streak to the Lady Railsplitters (19-12) dating back 10 years.  The last time TC beat LMU was Sept. 24, 1996 in Greeneville.  Tusculum also ends an eight-match drought in Harrogate (TC 3-2, Sept. 18, 1996).

 

                Vivian Lacy recorded 21 kills and 20 digs and a .380 hitting percentage.  Holli Cadenhead tallied a double-double of her own with 15 kills and 19 digs, while Stacey Ray dished out 57 assists and posted 11 digs.  Alexis Rowles led Tusculum’s defensive efforts with 25 digs in the victory.

 

                LMU’s Alison Hess added 14 kills to go along with Amber Vanderlin’s 44 assists and 16 digs.

 

                Tusculum returns to action on Friday morning as it opens the 2006 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament in Wingate, N.C.  The fourth-seeded Pioneers will face No. 5 Carson-Newman College in a quarterfinal match beginning at 9:30 a.m. at Cuddy Arena.  LMU ends its season and will be eligible for SAC championships and awards in 2007.
