Community-Based Learning Projects

Boys & Girls Club - Member locations.

Church Survey - A look at churches by denominations and size.

Food Insecurity - A look at grocery and convenience store locations in relation to residents who use food commodities distribution.

Homelessness in East Tennessee
(2005) Point-in-Time 24 hour homelessness count in 8 East Tennessee counties.  Survey conducted in November 2005. Shows agencies and general location of homeless persons.
(2007) Point-in-Time count for Greene County only. Survey conducted in September 2007. Shows homeless locations clustered in Greeneville and along Interstate 81.

MainStreet Project - Downtown Greeneville oral history project that was inspired by the Rediscover Greeneville project. Working with MainStreet Greeneville and local residents, students photographed and researched buildings that are within the proposed Rediscover Greeneville project area.

Maps

Greene County Census Maps - Census and Population Maps of Greene County, Tennessee.  Shows population by Race, Age, Education, Occupation, Sex, Areas of Poverty, and Voting trends within Greene County.

Non-Profit Organizations: If a non-profit organization has a need or an idea for a project, the Center for Civic Advancement should be contacted at (423) 636-7300, ext. 5256 or 5252 and a meeting scheduled to discuss the project.

We will integrate data-collection for your organization into an existing class for Tusculum students.  Data can be collected using our GPS (Global Positioning System) units and the results integrated into a GIS (Geographic Information Systems) map.
