offered within these partnerships for developing the qualities of
citizenship we seek in our students. If

commitment to an ongoing relationship yielding reciprocal benefits.
These agencies are knowledgeable about the college and our mission and
interested in working with our students. Service-Learning and
Community-based Research (CBR) projects would be welcomed (See Faculty Resources

The
Coalition includes service providers from
eight counties in NE Tennessee. In Johnson City, these include Good
Samaritan Ministries, Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN), the Johnson
City Downtown Clinic, Legal Aid of East Tennessee, Veterans
Administration Mountain Home offices, The Salvation Army, and the
Johnson City Office of Community Development among other organizations.

Types
of service opportunities include data gathering (surveying); research
projects; basic needs
drives; food preparation and service; working with transitional
housing; and IHN projects. Services to ARCH itself could include
helping
with Point-in-Time counts; developing promotional and fund-raising
materials, etc.

Explore
a variety of Service-Learning and CBR possibilities in this
economically depressed, southern-most county in West Virginia. BCPIA
links a
vision for social change with economic opportunity and sustainable
community development. Based on priorities set by the community, BCPIA
has an array of services and endeavors targeted at empowering families
and revitalizing communities. Although first-hand experience on-site is
very valuable, much work on projects can be done without leaving
Greeneville.

schools partner with Tusculum to develop projects to benefit their
students. These may take many forms---use your creativity. Help
students with Science Fair projects, read with students, tutor for the
ACT, help with writing assignments, or mentor a student. You
could develop resource web pages with links and information on
history (local and non-local), geography, or cultural topics such as
Native Americans, other countries, etc.

Rural
Resources is committed to supporting and enhancing rural life in
Greene County and the surrounding area. Ongoing work includes
educational projects designed to address specific needs and interests

mission of the Volunteer Center is to bring people and resources
together to meet community needs. Tusculum's partnership with the
Volunteer Center will serve to increase student learning and address
community interests. Together, we will continue to deepen work that has
begun on a Community of Promise initiative serving youth in Greene
County. A shared goal is to identify potential needs of community
agencies or areas within the America's Promise resources that can be
addressed through service-learning projects across the disciplines on

goal-oriented program works to keep elders active and functional.
Activities
are provided to improve physical strength and dexterity for each client
while
providing staff an opportunity to praise each client, improving their
self-esteem. The goal of the program is to reduce premature
institutional
placement. Work with clients one-on-one or in group activities; provide
parties, play games or do simple crafts.

Hospice
is a comprehensive health care program that offers physical, emotional
and
spiritual support to terminally ill patients and their caregivers.
Hospice care
is provided to patients in their home or, when there is no available
caregiver,
in a nursing facility. The purpose is to provide the best quality of
life
possible for the patient. Provide companionship to terminally ill
patients
while regular caregivers have time off. This could involve reading,
writing
letters, light housekeeping or cooking tasks, etc. **Twelve
hour training program, Hepatitis and TB tests and three references
required.
