"Illustrating the Text

_________ The image is analyzed well (using many analytical
approaches).

How the image and the text "fit" together is explained well (direct
evidence is used)
_________ How the image brings out a theme or
idea in the text is explained.
_________ Questions are raised and answered
(providing a
counter-point to the text), or in some way
the completed assignment adds depth to
what we are
reading.
The assignment will be graded according
to critical thinking criteria (use of background, analysis, and
evaluation) and writing criteria:
Writing
Rubric: The following rubric uses the writing competency to
establish grading criteria. The writing portion of your assignment will
be graded according to the following criteria:
The
A assignment will fulfill the following criteria very well,

fulfilling all specifics of the assignment (i.e. includes research if a
research paper),

establishing a clear, central idea,
-
demonstrating thoughtfulness and logic,
-
clearly organizing thoughts,
-
balancing generalities and details,
-
showing appropriate sentence structure and variety,
-
being virtually free of surface and usage errors.
The
B assignment will fulfill the following criteria fairly well,
- fulfilling
all specifics of the assignment,
- establishing
a central idea,
- recognizing
the complexities of the topic,
- organizing
thoughts, balancing generalities and details,
- showing
appropriate sentence structure and variety,
- being
somewhat free of surface and usage errors.
The C assignment will fulfill the following criteria,

following the assignment,

establishing a central idea,
-
recognizing the complexities of the topic but may have some "thin"
points
-
having competent organization, may have weak places,
-
showing competence in sentence structure and variety.

The paper may be weakened in one or more areas (main point, use of
evidence, stylistic flaws, surface errors, etc.).
The
D assignment will acknowledge the topic but not fully develop the topic
and be weakened in one or more ways (lack of main point, lack of
supporting detail, lack organization, contain stylistic flaws or
serious usage errors).
The
F assignment will be seriously flawed in terms of the above criteria or
not address the assignment.
