Professor Boyes received an M.F.A. in creative writing from Virginia Commonwealth University and a B.A. in English from the College of William and Mary. Prior to teaching at Tusculum College, Professor Boyes was a visiting Assistant Professor of English at Ramapo College of New Jersey; an Instructor at Virginia Union University; Managing Editor
for The Comparatist: Journal of the Southern Comparative Literature Association; Managing Editor for Geo Resource Consultants; a Production Editor for Marcel Dekker, Inc., and Editorial Intern for IBM.
Specializing in creative writing, Professor Boyes recently completed an original screenplay, The Legacy, which she co-authored with Melanie Lamaga. Boyes' anthology, The Way We Work: Contemporary Literature of the Workplace, co-edited with Dr. Peter Scheckner, is currently under representation with the New York literary agency, CMLA. Professor Boyes’ most recent poetry and short stories have been published in: Fiction International, Spoon River, Stray Dog, The Hawaii Review and Rhino Magazine, which nominated her for the national Pushcart Prize for 2002.
Boyes is the founding editor The Tusculum Review, a national journal of literature and arts. The journal will feature writings and art work from both well-known and unknown writers and artists.
Boyes has serves as an executive board member for the Southern Humanities Council. She is currently completing a novel, Where a Body Can Rest, as well as short story cycle, Animals.
