  • Teach BSOM marketing and Gateway introduction to business. Volunteer for Tusculum's Professional Development Institute, the Tate Library fundraising campaign, and College Days outreach program with Presbyterian Churches.
  • Provide consulting advice for professional career development and teach the "Getting a Job" workshop series of six seminars in the University of Tennessee's Professional and Personal Development program. Created a Vocation Planning Field Manual which is offered without charge to any Tusculum student or alum who requests it.
  • Worked 5 years as University of Tennessee assistant vice president of corporate relations. Developed strategic partnerships with industry and facilitated career interactions among students and corporate recruiters. Retired from 21 years in marketing and 5 years in sales with RJ Reynolds, Kimberly-Clark, and Alcoa, developing subordinates for executive management. Specialized in new business development, grass roots marketing, and business strategy.
  • Served US Marines as an artillery forward observer and operations chief in Vietnam.

Community Service:

  • Leader of a Community Schools task force, Fairview Technology Center business incubator Board of Directors, and Knoxville Area Chamber of Commerce. Teach Junior Achievement business games to Knoxville West and Farragut high school seniors, and support academic and public libraries. Founding member of the East Tennessee Coaches Association.
  • Serve the Marine Corps League, Navy League, East Tennessee Military Affairs Council, Congressional Medal of Honor Society, and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Focus toward programs that help disadvantaged military personnel, reservists, veterans, and their families. Assist the Marine Corps and the Navy in officer selection programs for the best, most qualified college students.

Personal:

  • Married for 33 years to Janet who serves as the Human Resources Director for the City of Gatlinburg. Have three adult children - Renée, Alan, and Patrick and two cats - Chester and Tiger. Enjoy jogging, golf, cooking, being outdoors, and working on and driving our 1965 red Mustang GT Convertible.
