BIOGRAPHY

Michael Curry, Assistant Professor of Management, holds an MBA from the University of Tennessee. At Tusculum, Curry teaches BSOM Marketing and Gateway Introduction to Business classes. Curry has supported the College with volunteer efforts toward the Campaign for the Library and the College Days outreach program with Presbyterian Churches.

Curry provides consulting advice for professional career development and teaches the "Getting a Job" workshop series of six seminars in the University of Tennessee's Professional and Personal Development program. He created a Vocation Planning Field Manual which is offered without charge to any Tusculum student or alum who requests it.

He worked for five years as University of Tennessee assistant vice president of corporate relations where he developed strategic partnerships with industry and facilitated career interactions among students and corporate recruiters. Curry retired from 21 years in marketing and five years in sales with RJ Reynolds, Kimberly-Clark, and Alcoa. He also served in the United States Marines Corps as an artillery forward observer and operations chief in Vietnam.

Community Service:

Professor Curry is a leader of a Community Schools task force, serves on the Fairview Technology Center business incubator Board of Directors, and the Knoxville Area Chamber of Commerce. He also teaches Junior Achievement business games to Knoxville West and Farragut high school seniors, and he supports academic and public libraries. Curry is a founding member of the East Tennessee Coaches Association.

He serves in the Marine Corps League, the Navy League, the East Tennessee Military Affairs Council, Congressional Medal of Honor Society, and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He places a special focus toward programs that help disadvantaged military personnel, reservists, veterans, and their families. He assists the Marine Corps and the Navy in officer selection programs for the best, most qualified college students.

Personal:

Curry has been married for 33 years to Janet who serves as the Human Resources Director for the City of Gatlinburg. They have three adult children - Renée, Alan, and Patrick and two cats - Chester and Tiger. He enjoys jogging, golf, cooking, being outdoors, and working on and driving his 1965 red Mustang GT Convertible.
