Rick Toomey, assistant professor of education, joined the Tusculum College faculty in 2009. He earned an Ed.D. in Educational and Counseling Psychology from the University of Tennessee. Dr. Toomey also holds a Masters of Religious Education from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Management from the University of Tennessee.
From 2000 to 2007, Dr. Toomey was employed by the Eastman Chemical Company as the Organizational Development Manager. This position capped a long and successfully history at the company. Dr. Toomey originally joined Eastman Chemical in 1970 and rejoined it in 1982. During the interim, he served as a minister in various church settings and as a Campus Minister.
Dr. Toomey has led approximately 40 community leadership programs sponsored by the Kingsport, Johnson City and Elizabethon Chambers of Commerce, as well as the Greene County Partnership. He has provided organizational development consultation and training for numerous United Way agencies and churches in the Upper East Tennessee region.
Dr. Toomey has significant experience teaching internationally and has taught in 17 countries, including England, Denmark, France, Spain, Switzerland, Germany, China, Argentina and Brazil.
