BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Tom McFarland, associate professor of business administration, combines academic, entrepreneurial, and engineering experience to link classroom learning to the world of business. At Tusculum he teaches Principles of Management, Organizational Behavior, and Human Resource Management but has taught a range of business courses while Department Chairman at South University in Savannah, GA and, previously, at Jacksonville University in Florida.

He earned his Ph.D. in Business Administration, Management, at the University of Florida; a MBA at the University of Colorado, Boulder and a BS in Civil Engineering at the University of Colorado, Boulder. He has 15 years of professional engineering and construction experience and served as an officer in the US Army Corps of Engineers, including a tour of duty in Viet Nam. As an entrepreneur, he helped start four companies including consulting and real estate development firms.

He is married to Nancy, an Information Technology senior consultant for the Bank of America and has a son and daughter. Nathan, a graduate of Jacksonville University, is an intranet developer for the research library at the Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico and Brooke, a graduate of the University of Oklahoma, works for the US Fish and Wildlife service in Seward, Alaska. They have three cocker spaniels—Whitney, Star, and Ranger, and Pete, a pound rescue, plus Sabrina the cat.

Dr. McFarland is a member of The Academy of Management, Southern Management Association, American Society of Civil Engineers, World Future Society, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars (Andrew Johnson Post) and Beta Gamma Sigma business honorary. He is a Registered Professional Civil Engineer in the State of Alaska.
