INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

Tusculum is a diverse community. We are pleased to have students from 15 countries. Our campus is greatly
enriched by the presence of international students in the student body.

Our student to faculty ratio of 15:1 means you will receive personal attention, providing a rich academic and social experience.

A SAFE LOCATION

Tusculum is located in Greeneville, a city in eastern Tennessee.
Greeneville is a safe community, experiencing a far lower crime rate than most large cities in the United States. It is a small town of more than 15,000 residents.
It is a charming environment in which to receive a U.S. education. There is a rich, historical heritage,
here, as well as a scenic location near the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Traveling by car, Greeneville is approximately four hours from Nashville, TN,
the capital of the state of Tennessee. Nashville is the “home of country music,” the National Football League’s Tennessee Titans, the National Hockey League’s Nashville Predators, along with many historical sites.

Knoxville, TN is one hour away, by car. It is a city busy with sports and entertainment.

Jonesborough, TN is the oldest city in the state. It is approximately 20 minutes from Tusculum.

If you have time for longer trips, Washington, DC is six and one-half hours away, by automobile. Atlanta, GA is four hours away. All of these, and more, can be reached via the Tri-Cities Regional Airport (TRI) or Knoxville’s McGhee-Tyson Airport (TYS).

BECOMING A TUSCULUM STUDENT – STEP BY STEP

International students are expected to follow the general admission policies. Additional information is listed below, for your convenience. Documents may be submitted separately. To expedite
the process, we suggest you provide as many documents as possible at once.

All Tusculum University International Students are required to have health insurance. In order to remain enrolled in classes, please complete the
Health Insurance Waiver Form and email to the Office of Admission at admission@tusculum.edu.

ADVANCED PLACEMENT CREDIT

Tusculum University participates in the AP, CLEP and the DSST Programs. These programs allow a student to receive course credit without participating in the course by successfully completing a standardized examination. Only official scores coming from an authorized testing center will be evaluated. Credit for exams appearing on transcripts from other colleges will not be evaluated. A maximum of 18 semester hours of credit earned through these examinations may be applied by undergraduate students to the total number of semester hours required for graduation.

Tusculum University grants credit for satisfactory scores made on AP, CLEP and DSST exams providing the following have been met:

  1. The student has received permission to take the exam from the Registrar (CLEP and DSST only).
  2. The student must pass with the minimum score determined by the Tusculum University faculty for the AP and the American Council on Education (ACE) for CLEP and DSST.
  3. Credit will be received as “pass,” that is, no hours attempted or quality points will be computed in the examinee’s quality point average.
  4. Unsatisfactory scores will not become a part of the student’s record.
  5. The number of semester hours granted will be determined by the scope of the material measured, as recommended by the Council on College-Level Examination (CLEP and DSST).
  6. AP, CLEP and DSST credit may not be acceptable for Pre-Professional and Education majors

COST OF ATTENDANCE

The Cost of Attendance is provided as a guide when estimating the costs of programs at Tusculum. It is based on normal charges incurred by most students; however individual charges may vary based on the student’s meal plan, program of study, total units enrolled, and other miscellaneous items.

FINANCIAL AID

Tusculum does offer scholarships for international students. These awards are based on academic progress and leadership.

There may be additional scholarship opportunities from outside sources. One such source is FastWeb.

ARRIVING/RESIDING IN THE U.S.

Prospective and current international students are responsible for staying informed of the United States Department of Homeland Security and regulations
for the International Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP). It is your responsibility to obtain your visa, file your I-901 form and
pay the mandatory SEVIS fee, and make any necessary travel arrangements.

Students admitted to study in the U.S. on an F-1 visa must attend Tusculum on a full-time basis to remain in good status. International students may not engage in unauthorized employment.

Within one week of the start of class, students must submit proof of health insurance coverage (see above).

When arriving by air, students should fly into Knoxville’s McGhee-Tyson Airport (TYS) or the Tri-Cities Regional Airport (TRI).
Prior to scheduling your flight, you should check with the Office of Admissions. Tusculum will provide transportation from the airport to our campus. We will have two scheduled pick-ups two days prior to the beginning of class. If you arrive at a different time, you must make your own travel arrangements.

When arriving by auto, you can use the university address for GPS assistance:
60 Shiloh Road, Greeneville, Tennessee 37743.

All students are required to live in on-campus housing and have a meal plan.
When you arrive on campus, you should sign up for Pioneer Alerts.
This is a system that allows Tusculum to notify you of emergencies, events, and weather-related schedule changes. You may choose to receive the alerts via email and/or SMS.

If you have any other questions, please email The Office of Admissions or call 1-423-636-7312.
