Each team will consist of no more than 7 players, with 5 playing, 1 substitute, and 1 officiating. Teams must wear the same color t-shirts or they will be given pinnies to wear. Player must wear court shoes, non-marking shoes. All jewelry must be removed. No hats, caps, long-sleeves will be allowed; headbands will be permitted. If these rules are not followed, a forfeit will ensue.
Each team must provide a scorekeeper. This means there must be a minimum of 5 team members present at each game.
Length of Periods
Playing time will be two 18-minute halves, with a 3 minute half-time. Time will run continuously except: team time-outs, the last two minutes of the second half, injuries, and official‚s discretion.
In the event of a tie, and time permitting, there will be one overtime period of three minutes Ų otherwise the game will end in a tie. The clock stops in the last minute. During play-offs, the overtime periods will continue until the tie is broken.
Start of Game
The game will be started with a jump ball. Possession will alternate after that. Overtime will begin with another jump ball.
The score keepers are responsible for keeping track of the possession arrow.
Each team may take 3 time-outs per game. The amount of time consumed during each time-out will not exceed 1 minute.
A team may make substitutions when there is a dead ball situation and games may not be delayed by them. A substitute must enter the game at mid-court, after the player being substituted has left the court. They must wait for the official to beckon for them to enter the court. Penalty for an illegal substitution = Technical Foul.
Forfeiture of the Game
The intramural director will declare a forfeit if a team fails to have six players (including a scorekeeper) at 15 minutes past the scheduled game time. The team captain may call the IM director in order to reschedule a game if s/he knows there will not be enough players prior to the game time scheduled. The opposing team captain will be contacted, and arrangements will try to be accommodated. After the 2nd forfeit, the team will be removed from the league.
Hanging on the Rim
This situation will result in a technical foul and the player may be ejected from the game. Dunking is permitted Ų but hanging is not! Dunking is not permitted before, after or during warm-ups.
Players around the lane may leave their positions when the ball leaves the shooter‚s hand. The shooter and player‚s outside of the 3pt. Line will not leave their positions until the bal hits the rim.
Team and Individual Fouls
Foul shots are taken after the 7th team foul per half. The number of team fouls will carry over in the event overtime. A player is allowed 4 fouls per game and is out of the game on the 5th. Any player fouling out of a game may not return to the game under any circumstances.
Intentional and Technical
These calls are at the discretion of the official, and will result in shots plus possession of the ball. These fouls count as personal fouls for the offending player. Two technical fouls on any one person will result in ejection from the game. Three technical fouls on one team will result in a forfeit. Six technical fouls on one team, in one season, Will result in ejection of the team from the league.
A player shall not use unsportsmanlike tactics, such as:
1. Disrespectfully addressing or conducting and official
2. Using profanity
3. Baiting an opponent or obstructing his/her vision by waving hands near his/her eyes
4. Climbing on a teammate to secure greater height to handle the ball
5. Object to an officials decision by rising from the bench or using gestures
6. Incite undesirable crowd reaction
7. Enter the court unless by permission of an official to attend an injured player
8. Fail to replace a disqualified player in 30 seconds when a substitute is available
9. FIGHTING WILL RESULT IN THE OFFENDING PLAYER(S) BEING PROHIBITED FROM PARTICIPATING IN BASKETBALL FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE SEASON. A REPEAT VIOLATION WILL RESULT IN SUSPENSION FROM ALL INTRAMURAL SPORTS FOR ONE CALENDAR YEAR. ANY TEAM INVOLVED IN A FIGHT WILL FORFEIT ALL REMAINING GAMES. (NO EXCEPTIONS WILL BE MADE!!)
If an official observes a player is bleeding, or has an open wound, of has an excessive amount of blood on his/her uniform, the player must leave the game. The player may not return until the situation is taken care of to the satisfaction of the official.
Any player that is ejected has 3 minutes to leave the building. They must then meet with the Intramural director before they are allowed to play again. This includes an ejection for two technical fouls.
If a team is behind in the scorebook by 30 points any time in the second half of a game, the game will be stopped and the team ahead will be awarded the win.
