At Tusculum, we know that technology is an important part of our students' lives.
All full-time, residential Tusculum College students are provided access to our telecommunications network, which includes cable television, telephone, and internet services.
Of course, you'll have to provide the actual TV, phone, and computer. But once you're hooked up, that's it! Try getting this kind of service anywhere off-campus.
Every Tusculum College residence hall room is equipped with an outlet for connecting your television set to the campus cable TV network. In addition to a range of popular network and cable stations, additional channels are available which transmit programming generated on campus, including a campus information channel featuring updates on all kinds of campus events.
Local telephone service is provided in each residence hall room. Students wishing to make long distance calls must make arrangements with the long distance service provider of their choice. Tusculum College has contracted with BTI Telecommunications Services for its long distance needs. BTI provides attractive long-distance and calling card rates for individual students. Information will be available at registration and through the Student Affairs Office. Long distance charges, naturally, are the responsibility of the student on whose account they are made.
Additionally, the College's telephone system is set up on a four-digit extension system to make on-campus dialing simple. This means that to call anywhere on campus, you simply dial the last four digits of any on-campus phone number. To dial a number off-campus, dial 9 to access an outside line, followed by the number you wish to call. It's that easy!
Students are encouraged to bring their own computers or to make use of the computer lab on campus. Every residence hall room at Tusculum College has 24 hour per day access to our local area network (LAN), which is included with the cost of tuition. This means that every student with a computer in his/her room and an Ethernet network card (which can purchased at most computer stores) will able to browse the Internet via our high-speed link.
Also, Tusculum College students living on campus have the option to upgrade their Internet connections to a broadband service provided by College Cable Services. Under the agreement, College Cable Services offers an optional high speed broadband cable modem Internet service in all Tusculum College residence halls and campus houses. The ResNet offering by College Cable Services will provide the bandwidth necessary for students who play World of Warcraft, for example.
