Meet John Cage
Hi there. My name is John Cage, and I am a 22 year old English Lit major here at Tusculum College. I am originally from Murfreesboro, TN, where I attended Blackman High School. One of the primary reasons I chose Tusculum four years ago was the Block Schedule, a concentrated class format in which you take one class at a time for 18 days, and then you're completely finished with it.
There are many things that have made me the person I am today. I owe most of the credit however, to my siblings. I'm the oldest of five, and I can honestly say that helping to take care of them as they all grew up was one of the most gratifying things I've ever done. I owe a good portion of the credit to my parents, who taught me that even when the going gets tough, it's best to plug on and get the job done. That's a good lesson in life, and a good commentary on college in general, and I am constantly mindful of it.
Tusculum has afforded me numerous opportunities. It has afforded me the opportunity to focus my studies one class at a time. It has afforded me the opportunity to personally get to know my professors, most of whom I know on a first name basis and I'm friends with on Facebook. But more than anything, it's offered the opportunity to receive a quality education in a small-town environment, where many of the distractions of a big city are not present. Thanks to this quality education, I look forward to attending Vanderbilt in the fall of 2008 for graduate school.
If I had to sum it all up, I'd have to say Tusculum has been a wonderful opportunity for me. I look forward to helping you make your decision as to whether or not you'll let Tusculum be a wonderful opportunity for you as well.
