FREE ONLINE ACCESS for TC employees & students to the complete New York Times archive:

On March 13, 2007 The New York Times announced FREE full text access to its current newspaper issue AND its archives for all users who register for the NYTimes Online using a current and active email account from an institution of higher education (.edu).

These instructions are repeated from an e-mail sent at the end of March. Faculty and others will want to advantage themselves of this opportunity and acquaint their students with it.

The Library at Tusculum College is very excited to assist students and faculty in taking advantage of this invaluable access to “all the news that’s fit to print”.   In order to register for this access, there are a few steps that need to be taken.

1.  Point your browser to www.nytimes.com

2.  In the upper right hand corner of the homepage,  click on the link that says “14 Day Trial”

3.   From this page, click on the link:  “University Faculty and Student Subscription “

4.  Enter your college email address.  For example:   sallystudent@students.tusculum.edu  or  fredfaculty@tusculum.edu

5.  Once submitted you will receive a thank you page with instructions on how to activate your free account.  Please READ these instructions carefully and follow.

6.  The email you receive from NYT will have a link to complete the account activation process and will require you to enter your college name. Click on “Upgrade Now”

button to create a password.   If you are prompted for a username and password,   please enter your existing account information.

7.  If you are unable to log in successfully, you will be taken to a page to register and indicate your affiliated college and then will receive an email welcoming you to the NYTimes with the information about accessibility.

8.  If you log in successfully you will receive another email confirming your access and ability to now search the NYT archives and download up to 100 articles per month at no charge.

**Contact the library if you encounter problems or need assistance creating your account.  **
