Vol. 8, no. 1 TUSCULUM COLLEGE TATE LIBRARY October 1997
Noted Appalachian writer Sharyn McCrumb will speak next in a series of joint appearances sponsored on campus by the Tate Library and Greeneville-Greene County Public Library. Thanks to a kind assist from Dr. Alice Loftin, the author will be here Thursday evening Nov. 20 (7 p.m.) at the Behan Arena. We hope many of you can come and that all of you will invite your students to attend.
After applying American Library Association formulas and guidelines over the summer, we are happy to announce that our total holdings collection (as of July 1) is 104,158 volumes. The figure includes a combination of microformat, AV items, and books (67,202 at Tate and IMC). When added to the 45,000 titles instantly available to us via our compact with Greeneville-Greene County, you can see that the TC community has quick access to 149,158 items, all of which can be located via our electronic catalogs. Our Bibbase catalog reconversion count is 48,386 (10/31).
New "Virtual Links Library":
A new and expanded library of links will, thanks to some hard work by the Reel editor, Ms. Susan Gibson, and Mr. Tom Sanders, become a reality at the Tate Library section of the TC Internet home page in early November. Included is a page of links for each academic program; we invite your to send us new URLs which can be included as links in the next revision.
We have applied to ACA for a grant to join in the JSTORS (Journal Storage) program (a subscription service for back scholarly journals); if successful, we will report further details after December 1. We are also in final negotiations, via our contact with the ALINET library consortium, to add Business Plus ASAP, another Internet Infotrac full-text database, as of January 1. Again, details later.
