Alexander Street Press and ARTstor
Alexander Street Press History Databases Access to primary source documents in American History including American Civil War: Letters & Diaries, Early Encounters in North America and North American Women's Letters & Diaries. For more information on each of these databases click on the above link.
ARTstor Access to approximately 300,000 visual images in digital format and the corresponding data. ARTstor documents artistic and historical traditions across many time periods and cultures and is focused primarily on the arts. ARTstor is also a great resource for students, faculty and researchers in other fields. Most of the collection has been derived through collaborations with libraries, museums, photographic archives, publishers, slide libraries and individual scholars. Sources include: The Image Gallery, The Carnegie Arts of the United States, The Huntington Archive of Asian Art, The Illustrated Bartsch, The Mellon International Dunhuang Archive, and The Museum of Modern Art Architecture and Design Collection. Proprietary software tools are available on ARTstor to enable users to view and analyze images through features such as panning and zooming and to save images for use in lectures and presentations. CREDO Reference What used to be only available in the Reference Section of the library is now available online through this database. Check out the dictionaries with audio pronunciation. Need a visual aid of the Human Digestive system? Check out the anatomical maps available from the Illustrated Dictionary of Science. Business Source Elite provides full-text for nearly 1,100 titles including nearly 500 peer reviewed journals covering business, management, economics, finance, banking, accounting, and more.
PsycARTICLES contains more than 40,000 full-text articles from 57 journals published by the American Psychological Association and allied organizations.
PsycINFO , from the American Psychological Association (APA), "contains nearly 2.3 million citations and summaries of scholarly journal articles, book chapters, books, and dissertations, all in psychology and related disciplines, dating as far back as the 1800s. 97 percent of the covered material is peer-reviewed. Journal coverage, which spans 1887 to present, includes international material selected from more than 2,100 periodicals in more than 25 languages."
CINAHL, the Cumulative Index to Nursing & Allied Health Literature, is the authoritative resource for nursing and allied health professionals, students, educators and researchers. This database provides indexing and abstracting for over 2,700 current nursing and allied health journals and publications dating back to 1982, totaling over 1 million records. Also available as companion database on Ebscohost is Pre-CINAHL.
Library, Information Science & Technology Abstract (LISTA) indexes more than 600 periodicals, plus books, research reports and proceedings. Subject coverage includes librarianship, classification, cataloging, bibliometrics, online information retrieval, information management and more. Coverage in the database extends back as far as the mid-1960s.
Regional Business News This database provides comprehensive full text coverage for regional business publications. Regional Business News incorporates coverage of 75 business journals, newspapers and newswires from all metropolitan and rural areas within the United States. This database is updated on a daily basis.
Points of View Ebsco describes this databases as " designed to assist researchers in understanding the full scope of controversial subjects. High school and undergraduate students can use Points of View as a guide to debate, developing arguments, writing position papers, and for development of critical thinking skills. Each Points of View Essay includes a series of questions and additional material to generate further thought. Also included are thousands of supporting articles from the world’s top political and societal publication."

Ebrary an online library of over 30,000 full text full image books from all academic disciplines. First time users must download the ebrary Reader in order to view the electronic titles (download time >1 minute). No username or password is required to access or read books from this database on campus or from any computer that is internet ready. Encyclopedia of Life Sciences comes via the ACA Central Library; in addition to an A-Z encyclopedia, the site also includes a glossary and a database of 3,000 peer-reviewed and weekly-updated articles from the scientific journal, Nature.
ERIC
ERIC, the Educational Resources Information Center, is accessible via the World Wide Web. Beginning October 2004, ERIC will include FREE full text documents previously available only on the subscription service EDRS.
ERIC MICROFORMS: For those seeking documents prior to 1996, microfiche collections of the actual ERIC documents are available, in Tennessee, at Tusculum College (use the online request form to request a specific ERIC document) , as well as Austin Peay State University, Belmont University, Carson Newman College, ETSU, Freed-Hardeman University, Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools, MTSU, Milligan College, Peabody College of Vanderbilt University, Tennessee State, Trevecca Nazarene University, Union University, University of Memphis, and the UT campuses at Knoxville, Chattanooga, and Martin.
Oxford Art Online formerly Grove Art Online provides online access to the entire text of The Dictionary of Art with constant additions of new material and updates, plus extensive image links and search capabilities.
Oxford Music Online formerly known as Grove Music Online, is an integrated online music resource that includes the full text of The New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians, New Grove Dictionary of Opera, New Grove Dictionary of Jazz, Oxford Companion to Music, Oxford Dictionary of Music, and The New Grove Dictionary of American Music. This newly revamped database also includes links to other Oxford reference resources, links to the RILM database of Music Bibliography and external audio links and other learning resources.
HERITAGE QUEST
ProQuest's HeritageQuest Online contains over 40,000 digitized genealogy and family history resources, federal census records, Revolutionary War pension application files, and more.
INFOTRAC
Infotrac I is our gateway to the Tennessee Electronic Library (TEL), a collection of full-text databases from the GaleGroup. Here you will find not only the Expanded Academic Index ASAP database to which TC previously subscribed, but several other useful collections as well. These include Infotrac Onefile, Business and Company ASAP, the National Newspaper Index, Health Reference Center-Academic, General Reference Center Gold, Informe (Revistas en Espanol), and the Kid's, Junior, and Student versions of Infotrac. Also, several subject collections are listed including: Contemporary Literary Criticism-Select, Professional Collection, Computer Resources, General Business File ASAP and International, and Health and Wellness Resource Center and Literature Resource Center.
Please be advised that Infotrac I is also available at Tennessee Public Libraries, where it may also be employed for free. You may quickly determine the hours of operation and address of your public library through the Directory of Tennessee Public Libraries.
Infotrac II continues our subscription to the Business and Company Resource Center, A nice introduction to that business resource can be found here. Also located here is the LegalTrac database and Custom Newspapers, which provides full-text and backfiles for 100 U.S. and world newspapers. Also included are Gale databases that are designed to supplement the TEL and include Biography Resource Center: The Complete Marquis Who's Who; Health and Wellness Resource Center; and LiteratureResource Center, which covers more than 90,000 writers, with in-depth coverage of 2,000 of the most-studied authors, History Resource Center, and, What Do I Read Next, a one-stop source of expert recommendations concerning mainstream or genre fiction and nonfiction book titles in all disciplines.
JSTOR
JSTOR, "Journal Storage," comes to TC as the result of a grant from the Appalachian College Association. This database allows users to examine full-text scholarly journal titles in the areas of Economics, Mathematics, Demography, Philosophy, Finance, Political Science, History, Sociology, Ecology, Higher Education, and Asian Studies. Please note that; each journal has a "rolling-wall" of currency, so be sure to check the journals list to see dates covered. JSTOR is currently available on the TC Network at Tate Library in Greeneville and at the Knoxville Center.

Statesman's Yearbook
is an excellent
and current resource for country information from around the
world. It is a current and
reliable source of political, economic and social information.
Value Line Investment Survey is described on the website as "a comprehensive source of information and advice on approximately 1,700 stocks, more than 90 industries, the stock market, and the economy." It provides weekly updated reports including financial and stock price forecasts, market forecasts, and current statistics to assist the investor. It is also available in paper format in the Reference Section on the Greeneville campus.
INGENTA
Another valuable source is IngentaSelect, a bibliographic and database service (formerly known as Carl Uncover) which allows users to review its database of 5 million plus periodical articles. Users may purchase articles from Ingenta or obtain them via traditional on site or interlibrary loan requests. To employ, once you have your choice of connection, click on down through the various ordering, etc. questions until you come to a list which offers you access by word, title, etc. Employ word as a subject index. This is really a very good source to learn about the existence of articles, which can then be requested through Interlibrary Loan if TC Library does not have the journal title in its holdings.

The dissertation source
UMI/Proquest
Digital Dissertations,
is an excellent source to review the first 24 pages of UMI
dissertations published after 1996. You have the option of
purchasing the entire dissertation in paper or digital form.
Also, the University of Virginia has a directory and short
abstracts of Electronic
Theses and Dissertations (ETDs) in the Humanities that are
currently in progress or have been recently completed. The Networked Digital Library of Theses
and Dissertations is another source that has digital theses
and dissertations available for purchase. All are excellent
substitutes for Dissertation Abstracts which is
available at larger universities such as ETSU or UT.

"FindArticles.Com" This free index to full-text magazines which appear on the web (including a few not covered by the subscription databases noted above), is, surprisingly, overlooked on the links pages of most libraries . Not to be taken lightly, it is recommended. Public Domain Government Databases.
Google Scholar The popular search engine's new progeny provides a simple way to broadly search for scholarly literature. From one place, you can search across many disciplines and sources: peer-reviewed papers, theses, books, abstracts and articles, from academic publishers, professional societies, preprint repositories, universities and other scholarly organizations. Take heed that much may not be available for free in full text.
NLM Gateway allows you to search
MEDLINE and other health databases seamlessly and is provided by
the National Library of Medicine. Catalog information for books,
serial titles, and audiovisuals, consumer health information, directory
of health organizations, and various meeting abstracts are examples of
what is available through this point of access.
AGRICOLA. (AGRICultural OnLine Access) created by the National Agriculture Library and its cooperators maintains a database of citations in agricultural literature from 1970 to the present. Topics covered in its indexes include "animal and veterinary sciences, entomology, plant sciences, forestry, aquaculture and fisheries, farming and farming systems, agricultural economics, extension and education, food and human nutrition, and earth and environmental sciences."
USA.gov formerly known as FirstGov is described on its website as: "... the official U.S. gateway to all government information, ... the catalyst for a growing electronic government." All government departments, branches and agencies that have a web presence are accessible through this website.
