PHYSICAL EDUCATION, HEALTH and SPORTS

Introduction:

Tate Library's Subscription Databases and the World Wide Web offer a large number of
valuable sites to those studying in the field of physical education. We have
gathered some of these here and have arranged them into two major categories:
Databases and Physical Education and Sports Websites: A Classified Library.

For phys ed books and other related materials (print and electronic) in the Tate Library collection,
be sure to check our catalog.

few British dailies, including their business sections. The New York Times, Washington Post, and
Nashville Tennessean are among the titles indexed. Particularly valuable for students of
sport history, management, broadcasting and marketing.

EDRS: ERIC DOCUMENT REPRODUCTION SERVICE allows you to obtain full-text documents (not journal articles) from the EducationalResourcesInformationCenter, back to 1996. This is an extremely important source ofmaterials for phys ed teachers, containing as it does all manner of reports, studies, bibliographies, etc.
User info: Once you reach this site, click on "E*Subscribe" in the top left hand corner (or wherever it is located if the pagehas been redesigned). Password information may be had from your instructors, in person, or by email to Tate Library. If you are a Professional Studies student, please be certain to indicate your class number and the name of your instructor.
For those seeking documents prior to 1996, microfiche collections of the actual ERIC documents are available in Tennessee,  at Tusculum College, as well as Austin Peay State University, Belmont University, Carson Newman College, ETSU, Freed-Hardeman University, Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools, MTSU, Milligan College, Peabody College of Vanderbilt University, Tennessee State, Trevecca Nazarene University, Union University, University of Memphis, and the UT campuses at Knoxville, Chattanooga, and Martin.

INGENTA is a free bibliographic and database service (formerly known as Carl Uncover) which allows
users to review its database of 5 million plus periodical articles. Users may purchase articles from
Carl or obtain them via traditional on site or interlibrary loan requests.  This is really a very good
source to learn about the existence of articles beyond those contained in the Infotrac products or
print periodical indices. Extremely valuable for phys ed-related items and may be employed as a reasonable substitute for the pricy SportsDiscus product, which is also simply an index .

JSTOR (Journal Storage), available on campus and through our ACA proxy server, contains full-text
articles in the sports-related areas of economics and history. There is a "rolling wall" of currency, meaning titles more recentthan three to five years old must be found in one of the other databases described here, e.g.,EXPANDED ACADEMIC ASAP.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND SPORTS WEBSITES: A CLASSIFIED LIBRARY

  Introduction:

In order to avoid a lengthy list of links, we have broken this site up into a subjective series of alphabetically-arranged major   categories. Beyond our effort, it is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that you visit The World Wide Virtual Library of Sport, which lists physical education sites from around the world.
As so much of what you study concerning physical education and health will be related to a possible teaching career, it is also STRONGLY SUGGESTED that you become familiar with the sites we have placed on the Education page of Tate Library's Links Library. These sites will provide additional information on topics as diverse as curriculum development, lesson plans, and program administration. If you are on a sports management trac, you should see the Business Administration/Management page.
