Karen Hartman, Upward Bound Associate Director
I joined the Upward Bound program in 1999, first as a Counseling Specialist and currently as an Associate Director. Here at Tusculum, I also serve as an academic advisor and an adjunct instructor of Tusculum Experience. The most wonderful aspect of my job is that I get to be a part of encouraging students to realize their potential, and often I am fortunate enough to see the results of their work when the students come back to visit after their college graduation! On a more personal note, I am a native of Greene County, and I attended Carson-Newman College where I received a bachelor's degree in psychology. I also attended the University of Tennessee and received a master's degree in clinical social work.  I live in Greeneville with my two amazing blessings that I am fortunate enough to call my son and daughter.  In my spare time, I love spending time with family and friends, playing games, reading and watching movies!   I currently serve students at South Greene, Morristown East and Morristown West High Schools. If you have questions or would like further information about the program, please contact me at khartman@tusculum.edu.

I graduated from East Tennessee State University in 1997 earning a Bachelor of Science. After graduation I moved back to my hometown of Jacksonville, FL  where I began my career as a Group Treatment Leader and educator. After marrying my wife , Barbara,  I returned here to her hometown to raise our family of two handsome boys, Trey and Justus. I worked  in the Johnson City school system as a special education assistant until coming on board here at Tusculum College. During my free time I most enjoy spending time with my family, working out, sports, and occasionally reading a good book. Contact me at csutton@tusculum.edu

Tonya Ridley - Counselor

I am the Upward Bound counselor for Cocke County and Cosby High Schools. I received my Bachelor of Arts in psychology and criminal justice from East Tennessee State University in a year that should only be disclosed under torture. I also obtained my Masters of Arts in counseling from there. For the first seven years of my career I worked as a child therapist and a school counselor and have been a part of the TRIO program for the last five and a half years. In my not so spare time, I'm obsessed with reading, torture myself by writing works of fiction and scripts no one has yet to realize the genius of, and do a fairly decent impersonation of a mom to one beautiful eight year old girl, a black Labrador, a lazy cat, and an auspicious guinea pig.  I consider myself very fortunate to have the opportunity to work with students from beautiful East Tennessee and feel honored to be a member of the Tusculum College family. If you would like to know more about the TRIO program you can reach me at tridley@tusculum.edu. I will be looking forward to hearing from you!
