Tusculum Colleges First Annual Earth Day Celebration To Be Held April 23
GREENEVILLE, Tenn. -- Tusculum College will hold its first annual "Earth Day Celebration" Monday, April 23.
Activities will begin promptly at noon with lunch on the lawn in front of McCormick Hall on the Tusculum College campus. The menu includes sandwiches, chips, vegetables and dip, dessert and drinks.
The event is being sponsored by Tusculum College's Service-Learning Center.
Groups participating in the day's events include the Appalachian Bear Center, Rural Resources, Appalachian Voices, Jonesborough Recycling, the Audubon Society, Tennessee Wildlife Resources, Natural Resources Conservation, Keep Greene Clean, and the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation.
Exhibits and events to take place are
*guest speakers
*Earth Day mural in which everyone can participate;
*Tusculum College Recycling Program booth;
*pledge booth where everyone can sign a pledge to do their part in protecting the earth;
*service activities such as trash pick-up along area roads and maintenance work at Mount Bethel Cemetery; and
*games and prizes, including a grill and gift certificates to area restaurants and stores
Attending will be Vanessa Hawley, a wildlife rehabilitator from
Kingsport. Hawley will demonstrate how to care for abandoned or injured
animals as well as explain other things she does through wildlife
rehabilitation. Accompanying Hawley will be some of the baby animals with
which she is currently working.
Members of the community are invited and encouraged to attend the
activities free of charge. Cost for the lunch is $3.50.
