Tusculum College anticipating one of the largest entering fall classes in its history
GREENEVILLE, Tenn. -- Tusculum College has announced that one of the largest entering residential college classes in the history of the institution is expected for the Fall 2001 semester.
George F. Wolf, vice president for enrollment management, reported that current indications are that Tusculum College, the state's oldest college, "will be welcoming over 200 new freshmen and up to 80 transfer students in the Residential College this fall."
Wolf said that applications to the College are "156 percent ahead of the previous year, and deposits to the College are over 400 percent ahead of last year on this date."
This is "successful first step in the process outlined by first-year President Dolphus Henry to increase the Residential College's enrollment to 1,000 students by the fall of 2006," Wolf went on.
The current deposits of the entering class identify increases in all areas of academic preparedness, with increases from the preceding year in the averages of high school grade point average, and ACT and SAT scores, according to Wolf.
Although space in the entering class is still available, the increased demand in Tusculum College has college officials discussing the possibility of closing the Fall entering class due to a lack of residence hall accommodations sufficient to accommodate the higher numbers of students.
Besides being the oldest college in Tennessee, Tusculum College is the twenty-eighth oldest in the nation and the oldest coeducational institution affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).
In addition to its Residential College offerings, Tusculum also offers innovative programs designed to meet the educational needs of working adults through its Professional Studies program.
