Professor's cleverness and enterprise puts right a springhouse knocked off its foundations by August 2001 flooding
GREENEVILLE — On Aug. 4 of 2001, as floodwaters swept across Greene County in one of the worst widespread floods in recent history, the old springhouse that stands behind the historic Doak House Museum at Tusculum College was washed off its foundation, and the foundation itself was partly destroyed. Peace activist speaks to Tusculum class
GREENEVILLE — A teenage Clare Hanrahan marched through Memphis as part of a silent procession after the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. there in 1968. That march began Hanrahan's life of activism, primarily in support of peace and social justice. Hanrahan described her life as an activist and her beliefs as a guest lecturer April 29 in an English Composition and Research class at Tusculum College. The class, taught by Elizabeth Gordon, assistant professor of English, has been studying activism. [05/02/02]

GREENEVILLE — A man whose public and private life exemplifies the Civic Arts in action was presented Tusculum College's Distinguished Service Award for the year 2002 on April 27 at the college's annual President's Dinner. Thomas J. Garland was described by Tusculum College President Dolphus E. Henry, in presenting the award, as "a man of multiple capabilities, broad interests, and natural leadership skills" who is a leader in civic life, government, commerce, and education. [04/29/02]

Local farmer gets help from Tusculum class in debris removal from flood-damaged fields

GREENEVILLE — Making quality child care a reality for more Greene County children is the aim of two projects completed by the fifth block service-learning class. The 17 students in the "Service Learning in Greeneville and Greene County" course divided into two groups to complete their projects. One worked with three local industries to conduct a survey about child care needs of their employees with the results to be used by the companies in making a decision of whether to establish a day care facility.
