Alumni chapter 'adopts the highway' at the new Knoxville Center

The Tusculum College Knoxville Area Alumni Network (KAAN) met Saturday, June 22, on Lovell Road to pick up trash between mile markers #2 and #4 on behalf of the Tennessee "Adopt-A-Highway" program. KAAN members decided recently to participate in the program, which involves the "adoption" of a section of road with a commitment for at least four roadside clean-ups a year. The section the KAAN members adopted is adjacent to Tusculum's new Professional Studies Knoxville Center, which is under construction at Centerpoint Park at the intersection of Lovell Road and Pellissippi Parkway. The group will meet again at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, for their second trash pick-up.

Established in 1992, the focus of KAAN, as stated in the group's mission statement, is to promote the welfare of Tusculum College and support its mission; to encourage an enduring relationship with the College by deepening alumni and student loyalty; and to develop and strengthen the bonds of mutual interest within the College community. The executive board of KAAN consists of fifteen graduates. Members are nominated by the current administration and voted in by the current board by voice vote. Board meetings are held at 6 p.m. on the fourth Monday of each month at the Knoxville Professional Studies Center.

Events in which KAAN has participated include the Alumni Ball, Angel Tree drive, Class Endings, Gatlinburg Aquarium trip, Graduate Salute, Knoxville Zoo trip, Multiple Sclerosis Walk, and a Ronald McDonald House fund-raising campaign. New members, ideas, and suggestions are welcome.
