TC Upward Bound students provide community service
Students in Tusculum College's Upward Bound program on Monday evening (June 17) helped clean a Habitat for Humanity site on Locust Street as well as organize building materials, at left above. The 90 high school students enrolled in Upward Bound's summer program were divided into three groups for their community service projects, one traveling to the Habitat site with the remaining two hosting an evening of Bingo, with prizes and snacks, for residents of Morning Point of Greeneville assisted living retirement development, at right above, and of Plaza Towers, an apartment complex for senior citizens, below. During Upward Bound's six-week summer program, students live on the Tusculum campus, taking special interest academic courses, visiting regional historical and educational sites, participating in community service activities, and also finding time for some fun group activities. Tusculum College's Upward Bound program serves six counties in Northeast Tennessee, providing counseling, tutoring and college preparatory courses throughout the year to high school students. Upward Bound is one of three programs, funded by the U.S. Department of Education under the Federal TRIO program, hosted by Tusculum College as as a community and campus service. Whereas Upward Bound serves high school age students, Educational Talent Search serves both high school and middle school students, and Student Support Services serves college students.
