Workshop focuses on integrating community-based research into classroom
Dr. Stephen Fisher, standing, led an interactive community-based research workshop Monday, March 17, at Tusculum College. Dr. Fisher, director of the Appalachian Center for Community Service at Emory & Henry College, discussed his experiences with community-based research and how he integrates service and addressing social issues into the classroom. Service can be valuable in addressing the cynicism of many college students, he said. "When students do a service project and see that it can make a difference in others' lives, that cynicism breaks down," Fisher added. Dr. Fisher is also a political science professor and program director of Public Policy and Community Service at Emory & Henry. The workshop was hosted by Tusculum College's Service-Learning Center, and those attending included Tusculum faculty members and staff from East Tennessee State University.
