Tusculum College students celebrate traditional Lantern Festival

Lantern-bearing students lined up at the Tusculum College stone arch on the night of April 21 to begin the annual Lantern Festival, the oldest continuing tradition at Tusculum College. The Lantern Festival, which dates to the 1950s, involves a symbolic passing on of lighted lanterns from graduating upperclassmen to underclassmen. The lanterns symbolize the light of learning and the Tusculum tradition. The participants marched from the arch to the Chalmers Conference Center in the Niswonger Commons building, where seniors reminisced about their time at Tusculum and passed on their wisdom and witticisms to underclassmen.
