Tusculum College financial aid director receives state honor
Pat Shannon, director of financial aid at Tusculum College, was recently honored with the 2003 Distinguished Service Award by the Tennessee Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (TASFAA).
Recipients of the prestigious award are selected by vote of the TASFAA membership. The honor is presented to an outstanding administrator who embodies the goals of furthering financial aid programs for Tennessee's students. The association currently has more than 300 members.
Shannon has been active professionally in student financial and the state association for more than 33 years. Prior to his current position at Tusculum, Shannon worked in financial aid at East Tennessee State University for 28 years.
As a member of TASFAA, Shannon has served two tenures as the 6th District chairman and is a member of the TSAC Advisory Committee. He is also editor of the association's newsletter, has been a presenter at numerous training sessions, and has chaired many committees.
Shannon is also an active member of the Southern Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators, assisting with training many of his SASFAA peers and colleagues. He served on the SASFAA committee that reviewed colleges' federal aid applications in the United States Department of Education's Region IV and set funding levels for campus-based aid.
