Scott Mashburn earns doctorate from Argosy University

Tusculum College's Dean of Students Scott Mashburn has earned the right to go by the title of Dr. Mashburn, having successfully completed his doctoral work at Argosy University in Sarasota, Fla.

Dr. Mashburn successfully defended his dissertation at Argosy on Aug. 4. Mashburn now holds a doctor of education degree, having studied in an educational leadership program with a higher education emphasis. The program was designed to work well with typical schedules of education professionals, with on-campus classes, for example, scheduled during times that many educators are off-duty on their home campuses.

According to the schools' web site, the origins of Argosy University are traced to the American Schools of Professional Psychology, the Medical Institute of Minnesota, and the University of Sarasota. These three schools merged to form Argosy University in September of 2001.

Dr. Mashburn did his work through attending classes in Sarasota, plus distance learning classes that used electronic communications between professors and students and allowed him to study at home. Mashburn began the program under the auspices of the University of Sarasota while he still lived in Wisconsin. He is originally from Covington, Ga., and now lives in Greeneville.

He and his wife, Kathi, have two children, Kaitlin and Trenton.

Dr. Mashburn joined Tusculum College in June of 1998. His primary duties relate to oversight of the Campus Life office at the college.
