
Doak House Museum hosts merchandizing workshop
Debbie Salisbury, standing, led a workshop Oct. 31 at the Doak House Museum about merchandizing for museums and small profit organizations. Salisbury, director of merchandizing for the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation in Williamsburg, Va., shared information about such topics as operating a retail gift shop, promoting a shop, and developing products. Attending the workshop were representatives from 12 historic sites, museums, and other non-profit agencies such as the Rocky Mount Historic Site, the International Storytelling Center, the National Park Service, the William King Regional Arts Center, and the James K. Polk Home Museum. The workshop was presented by the colleges Department of Museum Program and Studies with the generous support of the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation. The workshop is the first of its type hosted by the Department of Museum Studies and other workshops are planned in the future.
