Earth Day Celebration 2002

The 2002 Earth Day Celebration on April 22 began with a little uncertainty weather-wise and preparations were made to move the more than 30 exhibits inside. However, as the sky cleared, student volunteers mobilized to set up exhibits in front of the Niswonger Commons, beside Haynes Hall and in the lawn between McCormick Hall and the commons.

About 250 students from Chuckey and Doak elementary schools attended the Earth Day activities, which included an educational program by the Knoxville Zoo about endangered species.

Students from a variety of Tusculum classes participated, setting up educational booths, reading environmental-related books to the elementary students, and leading environment-related games.

The Earth Day Celebration was sponsored by Tusculum's Service-Learning Center, the Service Leader Scholars, Campus Life, and the Earth Club. Barbie Ricker, a Service Leader Scholar, served as student coordinator of the event in addition to the Service-Learning Center staff.
