Pamela J. Smith 1998 recipient of the Bruce G. Batts Award for consistent civility in dealing with others, a high level of scholarship and careful thinking, and a strong pattern of service to others. This award is conferred mindful of the profound contributions made by Bruce G. Batts to Tusculum College. The founding director of the Warren W. Hobbie Center for the Civic Arts, Bruce G. Batts was a man of vision, creativity, careful thinking, determination, and concern for others. His genius inspired the Tusculum College Commons and his thoughtful essays helped shape the community’s goals and methods in transforming the College.

Quincy Wilkins and Amy Claxton won the President's Award for a history of leadership contributions to Tusculum College.

The Earl Hausle Award for the outstanding Gateway Student was won by Wanda Dean of Rogersville and William Haynes of Seymour. Dean is employed by Kingston-Warren Corporation and Haynes works at Knoxville Utilities Board.

Professional Studies Staff Award for the outstanding student in the Master of Organizational Management program was presented to James Price of Morristown (Berkline) and Eva Todd of Strawberry Plains (Phillips Consumer Electronics)

The David F. Behan Award for the outstanding undergraduate student in Professional Studies was presented to Steven Mick of Morristown (Mahle, Inc.) and Georgia Sadlowe of Knoxville (Crossley Construction Company)

Shirley Beck Award for Outstanding MAED student went to Debra Bolyard of Greeneville and Sharon Roberts of Knoxville (Wright Associates)


Faculty Awards

Dr. John Reiff, of the West Pines community received the Teaching Excellence and Campus Leadership award, which is chosen by faculty vote, for his role as Associate Professor of American Studies and Chair of the Civic Arts Committee.

Ronald A. Conley of the Parrotsville community earned the Outstanding Service to Students award, which is based on a student vote and sponsored by the Greene County Partnership. A math professor, Conley received the award for clarity of instruction in teaching math principles and for consistent care in dealing with students.

Dr. Antonio Bos was presented the Paul R. Godfrey Award for service to students and teaching excellence. Originally from Brazil, Dr. Bos resides in Greeneville.

Dr. Melanie Narkawicz of Greeneville won the Dean's Award as the outstanding associate faculty member. Dr. Narkawicz teaches research and portfolio at the College.

The Freshman Faculty Award was won by Scott Brown, a graduate of Tusculum's Master in Organizational Management Program. Mr. Brown is from Elizabethton and is employed full time at A&L industries.
