The LifeWays program offered at the Doak House Museum is a classroom resource for local teachers throughout the school year. Students tour Samuel Witherspoon Doak's home and learn firsthand about life from 1830-1860. Students also learn about religion and education before the Civil War and how Doak preached at two churches, taught school, boarded students in his home, farmed over 400 acres of land, and sold, bartered and traded goods within his community. Each student who participates in the program receives a Tusculum Academy Honorary Diploma.

Fourth grade students from Eastview Elementary School in Greeneville visited the Doak House Museum on Tuesday, May 12.
At left, Museum Studies student Summer Kay talks to the students about 19th century life.

A Doak House volunteer helps the students experience a hands-on 19th century practice in the Tusculum Academy building. The students sewed paper together to make a diary booklet, then learned to write with a quill pen. Students also made animal figure toys from wire.
