Nancy Kilday
Nancy Kilday, Coordinator of Admissions Activities, was awarded for her 20 years of service.
Honored for their years of service to Tusculum College were Nancy Kilday, coordinator of admissions activities, employed for 20 years; Ronald Conley, associate professor of mathematics; and Chassie Rupert, administrative assistant to the physical plant, 15 years; and Carol Hartman, professor of education; David Hendrickson, assistant vice president for the residential college and associate professor of music; Michael Hollowell, men's basketball coach; and Allen Treadway, housekeeping attendant/painter, 10 years.

Public Safety officer Lloyd Verran was also honored on his retirement. He has been with the college for nine years.

In his remarks President Robert E. Knott discussed the meaning of the word "civility," which he defined as "the evidence of one's character and therefore a foundation stone of true community." While "the new buildings [on campus] are nice," he said, "this community is first and foremost the people who make it up." A person who is "civil" 1) gives evidence of respect for others, 2) has the desire to see others succeed, and 3) has the desire to build stronger and better communities, Dr. Knott said.

Knoblauch welcomed new and returning student s to campus for what she called a "banner year." She encouraged freshmen to "get involved and make the most of [their] college experience."

"You'll get out of this school what you put into it," she said.
