Tennessee Congressman Bill Jenkins (R-1st district) was on the Tusculum College Campus June 30 to tour this summer's Upward Bound Program. Jenkins talked with students and teachers, visited campus facilities, and observed the afternoon classes.

Jenkins' tour began in the Allison Art Gallery, where he talked to members of Lori McAllister's Leadership Reaction class about what they'd learned about being a leader. The congressman told the group that their ideas about leadership could come in handy in his line of work. "Put it on one page and I'll take it up to Washington and turn it into them," he joked. At left, Jenkins (center) converses with Robbie Davis. Seated is Jaime Solomon; standing, near right, is Nona Pinkston.
After stepping in on classes which taught karate and a mock trial class, Jenkins was off to the Shulman Center to observe Patricia Russell's class in Studio Art. At right, Jenkins looks at an artwork by student Donnie Bell.

The congressman's final classroom visit was to Kim Crowder-Vaughn's class, Literary Magazine, where he observed students doing computerized layout of their publication.
