Though most of Tusculum's residential students have gone home for the summer, a whole new group of young faces has appeared to liven things up on the campus. Sixty-five high school students from across the region arrived at the college on Sunday, June 7, for a five-week enrichment course that is part of the College's Upward Bound program.

The five-week course of study includes writing and literature classes, math enrichment, philosophy, current events, ecological awareness, and leadership study.

"We will be getting off campus quite a bit," says Scott Crowder-Vaughn, director of Upward Bound. "We are working with the Service-Learning Center on a service project in addition to our regular highway cleanup project and we will be going on field trips related to our coursework."

Two extended trips are part of this year's program. The group will travel to Abingdon, Virginia, to attend a Barter Theatre production, and, in July, will travel to Toronto and Niagara Falls in Canada.

The daily schedule will include classroom work in the mornings and physical activities, including hiking, games, and service projects, in the afternoons.
