Tusculum College TRIO Participant Receives Beaumont Laptop Award

Dylan Miller, a senior at West Greene High School, has won a Toshiba Laptop.

The Council for Opportunity in Education was awarded two laptop computers by the Beaumont Foundation of America. Two of these laptop computers were awarded at the KAEOPP/TASP Joint Conference in Lexington Ky, on Oct. 20. One laptop was awarded to a pre-college student; the other was awarded to a student currently enrolled in college.

The computers were awarded on the basis of need, assessment of the student's higher education goals, and the TRIO program's ability to support the student's technology needs. Various state TRIO Programs submitted one applicant each. Miller, a Tusculum College Educational Talent Search student, earned top scores for his application and was awarded the computer.

Along with Miller's application, student essay, and recommendation from the TRIO director, Talent Search was provided a technology training "Plan of Action" that will give Miller a support network for gaining computer skills during his first year of college. Miller plans to attend Milligan College in the fall to study technology, music, and ministry. Educational Talent Search is one of five TRIO programs hosted at Tusculum College. TRIO Programs are grant funded by the U.S. Department of Education.
