Tusculum Collges hosts Greeneville Small Business and Education Technology Expo Thursday

The latest in business and education software was featured Thursday (May 12) in the Greeneville Small Business and Education Technology Expo held on the Tusculum College campus.

A number of educational and business software vendors, Internet service providers, and other technology-related businesses and organizations set up informational booths in the Alpine Arena during the expo while workshops were scheduled simultaneously in various classrooms on campus.

The expo was sponsored in part by Tusculum College, the Northeast Tennessee Technology Council, the Greene County Partnership, XTN, Kingsport Imaging Systems, Inc., and EEAV Integrated Systems.

Workshop topics included how to use technology in research and rhetoric, the use of statistics software in business and education, techniques for mentoring student presentations, tips for improving presentations and keeping computer equipment running smoothly, as well as demonstrations of software and hardware for use in small business and education.

Many of the workshop presenters are Tusculum College faculty members, including DiAnn Casteel, assistant professor of education; Vicky Johnson-Warren, assistant professor of English; Anne Landers, assistant professor of education; Melanie Narkawicz, associate professor of research; Taimi Olsen, associate professor of English; Brian Pope, assistant professor of psychology; Anne Reever, assistant director for distance education for the library; and Bonita Cobb, an adjunct professor at Tusculum in education.

Presenters also included Beverly Miller and Larry Jones, who are responsible for the technology systems for the Greeneville School System.

Tours were given of the state-of-the-art distance learning rooms being installed in the library as part of the expansion and renovation project at that facility.

The expo was coordinated on campus by Theresa Swann, educational technologist at Tusculum, and the college's Information Systems department. Student workers of the department helped with the event's registration, placed signage on campus, and provided logistical support.
